It's a story many rock bands tell - work your ass off and hope that someone notices. It's called 'paying your dues,' and everyone has to pay. The guys in Relative Ash have paid their dues, and now it's time for you to take notice. "I remember our second big gig," recalls singer Marcus Harrington, "Sunday night and we went on at 1:30 in the morning." In the world of rock and roll, if you want to make it big, you gotta start at the bottom.

Of course, you can play all the 1:30am shows in the world, and if the music sucks, you'll be playing those shows for the rest of your life. For Relative Ash, those shows are a thing of the past. Their major label debut, Our Time With You… (Island), hits stores on August 15th, and promises to be one hottest records of the year, with Relative Ash's honesty and intensity opening up many eyes and ears.

The reality that flows through Harrington's lyrics is stunning - his father died from AIDS while Harrington was still in his teens, which he deals with in "6 Miles" - and the energy and emotion that Relative Ash conveys is intense and captivating. Their songs deal with everything from the topic of "6 Miles" to the ideas of being a positive person, fatherhood and many points in between. The result is passion, baby, pure passion.

Don't think that Relative Ash spent months in the studio and put everything into recording Our Time With You, only to not have anything left for the live show. "We practice our asses off," warns Marcus, "Fans can expect more that just what they hear on the album." Be ready.

Relative Ash is kicking some ass right now as part of the Tattoo The Earth tour. Catch them if you can. We caught up with Marcus and picked his brain for your enjoyment…
