Rock is dead? Not according to Nashville Pussy. This is good-old-boy, Southern-fried Rock-'n'-Roll at it's best. Say what you might about the state of rock music today, these four seem determined to reestablish the rock of old, when a band put in an honest night's work and everyone went home happy. With bassist Cory Parks (yeah, she is the sister of NBA star Cherokee Parks) doing her best Gene Simmons fire-breathing act, the crowd gets a nightly show-within-a-show. The surprisingly excellent guitar work of Ruyter Suys, alongside husband and singer/guitarist Blaine Cartwright, who will remind anyone of Motorhead's Lemmy, keep up an intense pace and are true throwbacks to the Ted Nugent/Foghat days. They don't change guitars after every song, which seems to be a trend among bands today, but keep on rocking and the energy level remains high throughout the show. Rounding out the foursome, drummer Jeremy Thompson, while apparently the least talkative, definitely holds his own and keeps the other Pussies moving.

VOX had an opportunity to spend some time with Nashville Pussy at The Hustler Store in Hollywood, CA, which seemed more than appropriate. With the nearly seven-foot tall Parks roaming the store in search of goodies for later use, and Suys browsing for treats as well, it was an interesting scene. We finally got them cornered for a bit and got a taste of some Nashville Pussy…
