Let Matthew Good Be Your Guide

"Hey, sorry I'm running late," Matt Good says. "My girlfriend called from Tokyo, and I couldn't very well blow her off."

We can understand that. It's not like we're going to be sleeping with Matt any time soon.

"Well, I'm not going to be getting laid by her in the near future either. She's there and I'm here at home."

"Hey, at least she offers you some potential," we said. "You don't have any chance with us."

"I don't know," Matt told us, in complete jest. "I could maybe suck a little cock, ya' know, but the rest of it is out of the question."

Luckily, he laughs at the end of the exchange. This is the Matt Good you might have heard about - blunt and quick of wit. He keeps you on your toes and isn't afraid of any questions. If you're timid, Matt may scare you. What is immediately clear is that Matt Good is extremely intelligent, down to earth and free of spirit. If you had any opportunity to read his online manifestos, then maybe you know what Matt's all about. He's not afraid to write about anything. He writes the sort of stuff that makes you laugh, then you feel guilty because you laughed at it. We think that's his intention.

In their home country of Canada, the Matthew Good Band is a multi-platinum band, and Matt Good is a legitimate celebrity. When we asked him why MGB was just now releasing an album in the states, Matt said it was because he likes the anonymity he enjoys in the US. We're betting his days as an unknown are nearing an end. Beautiful Midnight (Atlantic Records) is set to establish MGB as rock stars in America and start them on the road to even more precious metal awards - maybe gold? platinum? Grammy's? It's only a matter of time. "Hello Time Bomb" should explode all over rock radio if given the chance, which Matt doesn't see as very likely, nor does he seem to care.

With a book of his edited manifestos set to be published this year, his first US release and celebrity back home, Matt Good has life moving in a good direction, which he takes all in stride. To him it's all ironic. You see, Matt didn't plan on being a musician. The plan was to be a history teacher, not a rock star. It's funny how these things work out.
