KORN
Sick And Twisted Rock 'n' Roll

An animated image of an old man jerking off is a little difficult to shake out of your head and it certainly is entertaining – I guess! But if you attended one of two sold-out Korn performances at the Anaheim Pond (Orange County, CA) in early June, this is what you were exposed to in excruciating animated and narrated detail:

Grandpa takes a walk in the park.
Grandpa stops and feeds the pigeons.
Grandpa eats a little snack.
GRANDPA jacking off in the bathroom!!

Ah, yeah, it’s the Sick & Twisted Tour featuring Korn.  Entertainment at its best.

The only thing that surpassed the ear popping levels of laughter during these animated shorts was a thunderous opening brought about by grinding guitars, bone cracking plucks of bass, and militant explosiveness of drums; a signature sound that has brought this Korn to it’s present day relevance.

The Los Angeles based quintet casually strutted onstage and immediately jumped into their trademark head bobbing, feet stomping, tribal war dance with the opening of Issues first single, "Falling Away From Me." An uncontrollable mosh pit enveloped and a massive human volcano erupted with limbs flowing like lava as lead singer, Jonathan Davis shrieked, "Well it’s falling away from me, Fuck!!" The fans understood Davis well and agreed in kind with rage.

Mirroring an abandoned train terminal, a circular stage was adorned with flaming torches, grid iron, and an overhead chandelier dangling with corpses that appeared during the crowd favorite and major radio hit, "Freak on a Leash." The acrobatic moves and passionate wails from Davis, not to mention Munky and David Welch’s scorching guitar chords, burned well in excess of the torch flames. And the ringmaster, David Silveria, elevated on a drum stage like he was coordinating this mass hysteria with his manic jungle-style beats, was in complete control.

Pluck, pluck, pluck from bassist Fieldy certainly is the distinctive element that puts this band at the forefront of alternative rock. It is a sound that he performs with  confidence. He bravely stomped over to the sides of the arena using a ramp of speakers as his catwalk. And the walk he can do. Fieldy’s laid back, slouchy, playing-off-your-ankle style was mimicked by hundreds of fans strumming their very own ‘air-bass’ like they were creating that flat plucking sound themselves.

The only communication with the fans, other than Davis questioning his pain and the world around him through his lyrics, was the mid-show interval featuring live camera shots of the backstage area. Several guests lit-up for the camera. The omnipresent Fred Durst confirmed this, with no introductions needed of course, "I'm backstage getting fucked up… Limp Bizkit in the hoooooouse."
