The VOXOnline FUEL CONTEST is OVER!
FUEL has selected, and personally called, the winner!
| So - here's how it went down: with Fuel making their triumphant
return to Los Angeles, we thought, hey, why not let those super-cool dudes choose the
winner of the VOX contest themselves! So we met up with the guys prior to their June
27th show at Hollywood's House of Blues and had them pick a winner. From the more
than 300 entries we received, VOX narrowed it down to 6 finalists. Our six finalists
were (in no particular order): #1 - Stacy
Staranowicz from Pennsylvania [Editor's note: It seems like the big Fuel fans are in the Northeast...what's up with that?] We gave the guys copies of the finalist's paragraphs only - no names, no addresses, nothing but the words, and let them choose. Here's what transpired... Kevin Miller: Here’s a cool one…Carl Bell: And there’s six of these?! VOX: We had over 300 entries! Carl: Now, what are we giving away? VOX: An Autographed CD. Carl: Who read through the 300 entries? VOX: That was me! Carl: Oohh, man… Jeff Abercrombie: I haven’t read number 6… Carl: I have to look back to the first one Jeff: It’s either number 1 or 2 so far… Carl: All of them are really good, though. Brett Scallions: [Reading the entry that turned out to be the winner] "Alternative is in a sad state right now. Fuel is one of the few bands out there playing loud, heavy, fast rock music. Their music always gets me pumped up...it's hard to believe that in the mess of The Backstreet Boys and Puff Daddy the music scene is in right now, there is such an amazing group as Fuel. Their live shows are just as good as their recordings." Carl: I like that one where it says we play loud heavy-ass rock music. They’re all really good, this is flattering. Brett: We should just give them all a copy...
VOX: Well maybe we can get you to sign their entries, but the winner will get the CD. Carl: I like 6 Kevin: Yeah, six Jeff: I like six & number 2 a lot. Carl: They’re all really good man, I like number four…three, it’s talking about the right stuff. Kevin: Six is the one I had.
Carl: Six is it. You win, 6. Jeff: Where’s six from? VOX: She’s named Holly, she’s from Maryland and her email is "fuelfrenzy." Carl: Thanks, Holly! Brett: Let’s tell everyone her email address! Kevin: We should call her. Brett: Let’s call her! Carl: Kevin, you’re the candid one… Kevin: [Attempting to get a dial tone on the House of Blues phone] Hey man, how do you dial out? Jeff: Use the cell, it’s a business call! [Kevin gets the cell phone and he and Brett get the number dialed] Kevin: Here comes Holly…Is Holly in? Hi Holly, I’m Kevin Miller, the drummer for the band Fuel…Yes I am…And we just picked you as our number one winner for the VOXOnline Fuel giveaway! Holly: [Audible from 15 feet away] Ahhhhhhhh! Kevin: Everyone say, "Hi, Holly." Fuel: Hi Holly! Hello! Kevin: Yes, it’s really happening. We really love what you wrote. I’m going to put you on with Brett. Brett: What’s up, what are you doing, eating dinner, watching TV…checking your email? Cool. We got your letter here, thanks for the kind words… VOX: Tell her we’re getting this on tape for her. Brett: We’re getting this on tape for you. Say hi to VOX. Holly: Hi! Brett: [To VOX] Did you here that? [Back to Holly] Holly have we ever met before? Never? Well, maybe when we’re in town we’ll put you on the list, and we can hang out and stuff. We’re making our way to the Northeast at the end of the month. I’m going to pass you to the other guys. Do you want to talk to Carl? Good talking to ya! Carl: [To VOX] No, I don’t want to talk to Carl! [To Holly] Hi Holly, how are you? This was awesome - you had some tough competition, but we really like what you said, it was cool. We’re in L.A. playing the HOB. So we’re coming your way soon! We’ll be there soon, we’ll get you hooked up….here’s Jeff. Jeff: We had a tough time Holly. VOX got the top six for us, and you were right on top, so you’re the autographed CD, and we’ll get you backstage passes when we’re in Maryland… Brett: She’s saying this isn’t really them! Kevin: That’s what she said to me… Brett: [Imitating Holly] This isn’t you! Jeff: Let me pass you to Brett for a final goodbye. Carl: We’ll just say bye from here… Fuel: Bye! Take care! Thanks Holly! Holly: [Audible from very far away] Ahhhh!!! Phone: Click Kevin: She probably has Caller ID, and now she has my number! [She did, and now she has Kevin’s cell number] |
