Cold. It's a word that can mean so much. It's the mood your in it's the best word to describe the stare you're giving someone it can describe the war of words between two nations it's the illness racking your body it's death's chilly embrace. It's also one of hard rock's best new bands, and with their latest album, 13 Ways to Bleed On Stage, Cold are looking to redefine your thinking. With brooding lyrics and ultra-intense live shows, they're attracting fans worldwide. One big fan who has helped along the way is the ubiquitous Fred Durst. Durst was so impressed with Cold that he signed them to his Flip Records imprint and has assisted them in getting things started right. Listening to Cold's music, it's would be easy to brand lead singer Scooter Ward as negative. He'll tell you he's being realistic and the songs are based on real-world experiences. "Its not all totally personal," Ward explains. "Its personal in a way that its around me but not about me. Some
songs are real personal, some are about friends."
Ward, along with bandmates Kelley (guitar), Jeremy (bass), Sam (drums) and Terry (guitar), explode when they hit the stage. The title of the record comes from experience - these guys leave it all on stage, with nothing left out. The emotion flows and the onslaught of sound comes forth, without losing a deep sense of melody. Its a tenuous balance, but one Cold easily maintains. Theyre able to rock hard without losing you along the way. VOX had the chance to chat with the band as they made their way through Los Angeles - check it out |
